All About Us

Topic Description
Feast day Our Lady of Kazan Parish celebrates its feast day on November 4(Old Calendar); Fr. Ramon leads the celebration.
Our Parishioners We have about 28 families consisting of people of many national groups: Eight families of Arab-Americans (27) , three families of Russian-Americans (10), one family of Greek-Americans (2), and of course converts from different Ethnic-American groups consisting of about twelve families (17). Only two or three people are Russian speakers. Occasionally recent Russian immigrants come for services or sacraments, but do not return for regular services.
Liturgical Languages English is the primary language services are conducted in. Some Arabic is regularly used due to the number of Arabic speaking parishioners. Several Ektenias are done in both English and Arabic. Slavonic is done occasionally if there are visitors. Some Spanish has been recently added due to some new Hispanic converts who speak very little English.
Calendar Our Lady of Kazan reverted back to the Old Calendar in 1999.

Classes for adults Offered on an as-needed basis. Currently 2 prospective converts are attending catechetical sessions with Fr. Ramon.
Hosting two Orthodox Missions With the permission of Bishop Mecurius, our parish is host to two other Orthodox missions: An Ethiopian Orthodox parish, served by Fr. Woldehawariat Assefa, and Elevation of the Holy Cross, a Romanian parish (OCA), served by Fr. Justin, who has recently been assigned. The Ethiopians serve Liturgy on Saturday mornings and the Romanians will soon have their Liturgy on Sundays after our service concludes at 12:00 noon. The Romanian parish was holding liturgies on Saturday after the Ethiopian parish because their temporary priest served two parishes and could only come on Saturdays.
